End of Year News Update
Thank You
As we approach the end of another year, can I take the opportunity of thanking all our volunteers for the time and commitment they have put into Scouting this year. It is a good time to reflect on the opportunities you have created for so many young people, and on how your efforts have enabled those young people to develop over the past year. It is also a time to think about how you can build on what you have already achieved with the young people you work with for the coming year.
2012 – our Centenary
Back in 2007 when the World Scouts celebrated 100 years of Scouting, the District Executive made the decision to celebrate the City of Nottingham Centenary of Scouting in 2012, the year 100 years on from when the Boy Scouts Association was incorporated by Royal Charter by King George V on 4th January 1912.
Planning for 2012 has been on the District Executive agenda for at least the last 4 years.
You, together with all the other members of your Scout Group should have received a copy of the 2012 Centenary booklet. This is full of programme ideas for the year, including activities that are being put on by the District. We have set up a 2012 web page which will be updated with more information and ideas as we go through the year, with links to other related pages.
All Groups are expected to participate in our Centenary Event in the Old Market Square in the City Centre on June 9th. We are still waiting to hear from many Groups as to the activity they are proposing to put on for this day (if your Group is one of these please let us know asap)
There are also challenges for all young people to get involved with throughout the year. Please encourage the young people in your section to participate in these challenges. Details are included in the Centenary booklet
Annual Census
The annual census is a requirement for every Group each year, and is due at the end of January. Please read the Census web page for full requirements, best practise, FAQs, membership fees, and the timeline, and downloads.
We will continue to use the census information to identify areas for support within the District, such as those sections that have less than 12 young people within a section as we are targeted to reduce these by 50%
County Camp
Although the official deadline for expressing an interest has passed, I still have some places reserved until the end of next week. Let me know how many places you would like.
The only Groups currently attending are 1st Wilford, 62nd & 4th and Beavers from 24th, 124th and 45th
I would like some feedback from Groups not attending as to why they are not
Happy New Year
