| | Our target for end Jan 2007 was 900 members. We achieved 855 by end Jan, but 3 weeks later 49 young people and adults were invested as Scouts at Pitsford, which have now been included in the numbers. We have therefore achieved our target!
There are two areas for concern - Ashby Fields and Flore. Both have significant losses in the year.

| | For me it is an experiment to see how it goes. I think they have their place in sounding out peoples views of things, but will never replace a conversation. It is also difficult to get those involved that would normally say something, but are not confident in using technology or even the written word.

| | To recruit the young people we need the help of leaders. Most leaders will know whether a young person is suitable, ie going to sensibly contribute. We may find the odd Scout age young person but the majority are going to come from Explorers, Network and Young Leaders.

At the moment we are virtually unable to recruit non uniformed people to take part in the exec.

We use the tools already in place such as annual reviews of positions and warrant reviews to ensure that those leaders young or otherwise are enjoying a happy and challenging life in scouting. | | I agree David that what Pete is doing with the winter camp is a good place to start. For the 14 to 18 age group we already have a good system of support in place through the YL scheme. The training being led by Pete and Sue McT is going down very well. They have introduced 'YL missions' into the training which means that they take on a specific project in their chosen section to develop... |

| | As John has said, this is surely the YL program for the 14 to 18 age group. It does need groups to hold a link to their ex-scouts once they attain 14 to make the young persons first steps in the YL area less daunting.
18 plus presents a different challenge as many leave the area at this stage to go off to university. Unfortunately we haven't got a university to tap into in Daventry. ... |

| | I think that having young people involved in the running of sections is a good idea and the young leader program is an excellent way of involving young leaders although they cannot take responsibility for management under 18.
We already have troop and unit forums and making more use of those in managing the running of the sections should be encouraged.
